Quilt update

I've done a lot of work since my last post! I planned to have this thing done by January 7th but due to unforseen circumstances -  the first of which being the flu, and then some procrastination with other projects as the tedium of piecing 600 little squares of fabric together increased - I've changed the goal to January 29th (which I'm realizing now is only a week away, so I've got a lot of work to do!). Last time I updated, I had my initial 9 C blocks (all blue) finished. The pattern called for 9 C blocks and 16 B blocks (a blue cross with white corners) (pictured below) but I was starting to suspect that this wouldn't be large enough to suit my needs. I did later decide to expand the pattern by 18 inches, or 2 more rows of blocks in one direction.

After this point, I finally braved the weather and found the dark blue fabric seen at the center of these first 3 A blocks, from a different store than I had purchased the rest of the fabrics.

I did some laying out to ensure I liked how all the elements looked together and to get a feel for what I was creating.

All this work brought me to this point - 63 total blocks made, but not yet put together. A happy New Year to me! It was very gratifying to see all my hard work laid out in front of me in such a tangible way.

After doing all this hard work I needed to test the size 😜 you can just see in the below picture that at this point I had sewed the blocks into 9 horizontal strips, each 7 blocks long. One step closer to the final quilt top, with the remaining work being to sew these strips together and then piece together a border, and then finally to quilt and bind the entire thing.

The above photo was taken Jan 2nd, just before I fell to the flu. Quilting progress thus far is somewhere between a third and half of the way done, and will be another post at a later time.
